How do you test a coil?
I am stilling trouble shooting my Formula and want to check the coil. Does the pick send a specific volt signal to the coil? I bypassed my computer to have the pick wired directly to the coil assuming the pick still sends a signal even if not wired through the ecm and the 6 initial timing should get it to start but I did not check for a voltage signal. I did check the pick up according to the GM service manual and did get infinity reading on both sides. Now to check the signal and coil. Might just by another coil and see if that works. Can always return if it does not.
BTW I am assuming my accel coil is pretty much the same as on my vette, only 1 pos and 1 neg hook up and the wire to the cap.

Your service manual and a multimeter will give you the answers you seek. Have not been there on my Vette but other cars in the corral. To be painfully honest, I got a cheepie digital at the auto parts store and it does the job. At work, I'm an aircraft mechanic, we use the FLUKE name brand.

Service manual shows how to test the stock coil using the computer leads, the Accel coil does not have any. It is a diff shape than ours but I think it functions the same. Still not sure how the accel computer controls the spark adv though. The thing that is pissing me off is the lack of info in the resources I have. There is very little info on the passkey system in the chilton's or service manuals and no info in the accel installation instructions. I still have 4 wires coming out the passkey module that are not identified on any of the manuls. :mad
