Ok well my friend had a camaro that he would do burn outs all the time in, (a nice 1969 camaro with a 383 stroker in it) and all he would do was mash the brake down and floor it.. smoke would a rise!!
I tried this in my vette.. no dice. What gives? is it the positraction? do you have to get a linelock in a vette or you will just blow out your back brakes? I have about 300 horses or so it should not be a question of just sucky horsepower/torque..
this would be one of those times where I felt like an idiot .. maybe it's my brakes
Tire Size, Rear axle ratios figure in here too. My '76 with 255/70 15's wont lite up either, and I'm makin about 350 HP. But I sure do come out of the Hole nicely! :yesnod:
What kind of tire do you have? Rear gear? The independent suspension of the corvette give a big traction advantage. Combine that with rear disc brake that engage as soon as you press the pedal (not like drum brake). It's easier to do burnout with a linelock.
When my tire are hot, I can't do burnout but I can do a 60 ft in 2.00 sec. Don't be ashame, go to the local track and smoke some mustang off the line. :D
if i really drop the hammer the front wheels start sliding and i'm afraid they will flatspot.
Mine was doiing the same thing. Sometimes if I was lucky I'd leave 4 short patches of rubber. 2 from the back wheels spinning and 2 from the front sliding.
I recently followed Lars' Qjet tuning paper, and now I can light them up! Nothing else changed.
Maybe the Camaro's brakes were poked???? And yours are good........I mean the idea is to get the wheels spinning, not lock them up......if you hammer the brakes you're locking them up......try easing forward slightly and building the revs slowly, apply a little more pressure to the brakes as the revs go up.....then once you get the wheels spinning you should be free to hammer the pedals hard......works a treat in my 300HP late model with IRS and ABS......
BTW if you try this and end up sliding sideways into your house, don't forget to post the after pics here :)
How do you put 295's on all corners? Never seen that.
With 300 or more horses, you should be able to spin with any ratio or tire size. Dyno the car and see what your working with. Line lock will do the trick.

:withstupid: My car will absolutely Roast the tires. In fact now I have to go and buy some new ones since I Burnt them off
Take the pads and put them in a mixture of antifreeze and brakefluid over a couple of days, and they wont engage for the life in them.. :D Just dont drive around with them later:)
This i`m told anyway
my vette is running a lot of cam, sacrificing tourque for lots of high end horsepower......
will upgrading the q-jet help me spin the tires? I really need to do better burnouts!

:iagree:
I used to do some wicked brakestands with my 86 S15 2.5l 4 speed with this technique, although only one wheel would spin.
Linelocks are cheap.. You can get a Biondo for $40... That's cheaper than a set of brake pads...
What kind of tires are you running??? If you run street tires - a burn out can actually decrease traction...

I had to do a little trimming on the leading edge of the front wheel well.
since my car is not collectable i had no problem doing that and you can't really tell afterwards if you do a good job.
the 295 on an 8" wheel is no good. the tire is too wide for the rim and it rolls over on the sidewall. I had 10" rallys on back, they don't fit on front due to interference with the tie rod end.
I got a set of alum slots for 100 bucks and went back to 255/60s
i'm pretty sure i have a pair of firehawk ss20's on the back.. they are not to bad on size. my breaks give out before I burn any.. i am defintly going to invest in a line lock... checked prices and they are cheap after all. I also am considering highly to buy some c5 breaks and do that mod I saw on corvettefaq (they look awesome too!) so hopefully that will give me some better breaking power. IN the meantime I will defintly check out that slow approach to the burn out and see if that works! thanks
(just bought some 3.73 12bolt gears on ebay also! that should help!) thanks for the advice everyone! if you have any more tips please lemme know http://www.dj-serotonin.com
