Looking to replact my POS Holley rebuild with an original BB Qjet. Anybody know where I can find a list of the right carb numbers for particular applications?
The Corvette Museum has this program called VetteSet which has all the numbers. For a 69 427/390 L-36 manual tranny the Q-Jet was #7029215. But, I suppose the #7029214 would work too since that was what went on the auto 427/390. Which Holly do you have? The 427/400, 427/430, and 427/435's got Holleys.

JB,
The Quadrajet that you need is 7029215... They are date coded (of course) and will have either a four digit julian date/year code for Rochester manufactured Quadrajets or a two character year/month code for Carter manufactured Quadrajets. Either manufacturer is correct for your car.
A correctly dated and numbered Quadrajet for your application will be difficult to find and expensive when you do. While I haven't priced Qjets recently, I remember some of the more desirable units going for $400+ a few years ago for just the core... Add in whatever the cost to rebuild and cosmetically restore it.
If the price doesn't shock you, I can suggest a couple of people who may be able to help.
No, the high price doesn't shock me--it's about what I expected. One question on the number, though. I found a page that seemed to suggest that for cars with A.I.R, the third number should be a 3 rather than a 2 (so it would be, I guess, 7039215 rather than 7029215). Does that sound right?
All 69 vettes came with A.I.R. so the number you want is 7029215. (I never heard about a diferent # for engines with A.I.R. ). I havent priced these carbs, but one thing that should work in your favor is they are not corvette-only carbs. (Unlike 68! :( ) If you look at the website I referenced you can see that the 7029215 was used on 396 engines in Chevy IIs, Camaros, El Caminos, and Chevelles, so at least in THEORY, there should be more of them around. :) MJ
Lars list is from the Rochester documents.. 7029215 or 7029201 are both acceptable per his list but NCRS only recognizes 215. I have 201 on my oct 69 car with the correct dates. Both carbs may hvae the 70 missing.. mine reads 29201. I have seen some originals that read 29215 as well.
It's the Carbs Unlimited page that suggests A.I.R. cars had the different #, though maybe I've misunderstood it somehow. Here's the webpage: http://www.carbs.net/quadnumber.htm
Thanks for the help, guys. Now to find one--
Hey, guys, if I was looking for good functionality rather than correct numbers, would a 7040504 carb work? According to the Carbs Unlimited page, that's from a 1970 Corvette 454 with auto tranny. Got a line on one.
7040504 is a 70 vette 454 atuo from calif. It should work fine if you have an automatic. If you have a 4 spd then you would need to chang the power piston spring.
I checked the numbers on my carb tonight. I am supposed to have a 7040203 or 7040213 - 1970 350 4 speed. It turns out that I have a 7042202 - 1972 350 Auto.
Can anybody tell me if I will have any problems with this carb? I've never thought that it has performed really well for me. What is the diff. between an auto and a 4 speed carb and can this carb be made to work like a 4 speed?
