Decided I was spending too much time on the vette and couldn't get rid of the itch to get another bike after not having one for 6 years.
Last week I finally broke down and bought a BMW. It's a great compromise as a sport/touring machine. Hell then even have hard case saddle bags for it and 3 years full road side assistance. http://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/machin...s_replika_2004

Yeah, but you get to keep your leg. Lay down a Harley and you might not be so lucky. Gotta love those Beemer cylinder heads--they also make a hell of lot more sense mechanically than a V-twin, because both cylinders catch the wind while the back cylinder in a V-twin runs hotter than the front cylinder because it's blocked.

Hi
Uh, I was under the impression, that BMW boxers are water cooled anyway.
But, your right, Harley's air cooled aft piston is #$&%##@
The aft hidden piston needs to be water cooled or minimum oil cooled, like some ricers succesfully proove.
I drive a Kawa Vulcan twin 1,5 Liter water cooled Harley copie.

Miker - Hope you get your bike back in shape soon. A Deer! Never thought about than happening, but something else to look out for on the road.
The Yamaha has a great motor and frame (more high tech than the Beemer LOL).
All - The bike I have is whats referred to as an oil head. At some point they put an oil cooler up front and used oil to keep the temps in check.
I hope I never have to lay it down and find out how the cylinders hold up. At least this one has carbon fiber valve covers and a titanium slider on the cover just in case I get too agressive in the corners and let the head hit the pavament.
I went on a 100 mile run yesterday on some twisties north east of where I live and had a blast.
