So my car has two year old black paint. No swirls, no scratches or key marks, great clearcoat... the only problem is that the headlight doors are rubbing when they are opening. This has taken off two little chips out of my paint, and rubbed through the clear coat in some spots. :mad :mad :mad
Whats the best way to adjust these to ensure they don't rub again? is there a method to lining them up? or.. will they just -always- rub?!?! :banghead:
mine did the same thing- leave the lights up and try to wiggle the door-if it wiggles it will hit the body and chip the paint something is probably worn in there then take the light door off-its pretty easy, kind of hard to reach, but i did it without removing the hood. when the light door was out (not the actuating mechanism) i found that the mounting hole (where it pivots) was worn badly, i drilled it out and sleeved it. it has not rubbed since. maybe this will fix your problem. they should not rub.
mine also rubbed. what i found the problem to be was the area around the headlight had lost it adhesion and was slightly higher than the headlight. i managed to get a bead of epoxy glue and problem was fixed
The head light door has a hing on both side of course. And this hind is a small casting, with a nylon heim joint in the middle and 3 small bolts holding it in place. The 3 bolts are in large holes. By loosening the 3 bolts the hinge can be slid around to increase the gap or raise the back edge of the door. The inside hinges are easy to get at but the outside are alot harder.
The height of the front edge of the door is adjusted with a single bolt acting as a stop.
I had this problem a month ago and ended up machining a new hinge with more of a offset hole.
