Default Dwell Meter hook up...

Dumb question, but I lost the instructions. I have a green lead and black one. Green to power source, black to neg. of coil?

No...... Green goes to the Negative (-) side of the coil. Black goes to ground/engine block.

If you have an MSD box hooked up the dwell at the coil is different than with a point dist. Do you have a MSD dist or just the box? The MSD box should have an o/p for dwell, check the manual on it or go to the MSD sit e and download one.

If you use a stock coil or even the blaster coil dwell is still dwell as far as how long the coil has an on and off period. The difference with a MSD, Crane etc is the pulse to the coil is not a sine wave like the old pulse from a point/condensor setup was so the dwell meter may give a different reading - possible false. Go ahead and hook up the dwell meter with the green to the
(-) of the coil and the black to a ground - engine bolt etc. See what the dwell says as you are shooting for 29-31 degrees on a point distributor. If you are using the MSD or like type mag pickup then the dwell is fixed by the spacing of the pole and pickup parts. Remember if you do change dwell, recheck the timing.
