This is a very big thankyou to Lars, I have been trying to get my car running since i joined the forum and in regards to my last topic he sent me an IM a that explained what to do. Today I took the carb off my car and did what he told me to and after a brief prayer to the mechanic god we turned the engine over and it now runs beautifully. Thank you again.
yup! His instructions on Q-jet tuning took my car from 15.8 to 15.2 . I'm not sure about the recurve kit I got from him yet, have to go back to that track. :D
And to share all that knowledge is the awesome thing!
You are correct! His willingness and ability to share all that knowledge is what makes him so fantastic for all of us. (Not everyone can have him work on their car first hand, but everyone can read the articles and learn) He has written volumes and volumes, and when a dummy like me can read thru his papers and I can time my car successfully and build a fuel line successfully and rejet my carb then you know he has written some great instructional material. (The pictures in the fuel line article were also very helpful) :) :)
time for another little story: I followed lars' detailed step-by-step instructions a couple of times for removing the top of my Qjet and changing the jets. Yesterday was time to change again, so I figured, hey, I have done this enuf, I can do it without folowing lars step by step instructions. So I carefully tap out the pin, remove that rod, remove the choke rod, carefully remove the 9 screws, unscrew the 2 front bolts and gently lift off the top of the carb............ with the secondary rods hanging down from the still-attached secondary hanger!
I already posted above about Lars. No doubt about it, his unselfish sharing of his knowledge has not only saved my butt on a few repairs, but made my Vette perform better.
Let's not forget the others who share professional level of knowledge. I know some, if not all work in the automotive field and have do this full time. Sometimes after working on cars all day, I could understand if they didn't want to think about them when they got home: Ganey, Matt G, Clem, Monty,patsnitrousvette,69vette66,arrio76 ,WPEdirect, guppie, phxraptor, sdixon.
Then there are so many that have shared their engine building know-how, those that have done the same with restoration, and every other great member of the forum that has posted about a repair. There is no doubt that without the help of the members of this forum I could not own my Vette. I can do some wrench turning, but diagnosis is my weak point.
Thanks again to all you guys! :hurray:
I am fortunate enough to live not far from Lars. I took my sick '73 to him two weeks ago. In under one hour he had pulled the distributor, completely rebuild it and had it back on the car! After this he troubleshot a another miss and found a dead spark plug. It was a totally different car running on eight cyls.! What he did would have taken me all summer to figure out all the problems I had with the motor. And on top of everything else he is a genuine, nice guy! His only complaint was I didn't bring any beer!! Won't forget next time...
