Default Got a ticket for street racing.....

Friday Night: Corvette vs Mustang (5.0L) & Chevy 1/2 tonne (built 327)... Talking to 1/2 tonne driver at red light. He brags about his 400HP 327. (I have to admit it was loud). ok so lets see! 30 seconds later cops are after me with Sirens... pulled all three of us over and gave us all racing tickets. The government made a bundle in about 3 seconds. There is no set fine but i believe maximum is a $900 fine and 12 demerits. If its any consolation (which it isn't) I smoked them both off the line and the whole way. So take it from me... leave it for the track. :banghead:

Now you have to convince them that you need you license or warm up your walking shoes.

You got off lightly. Many who do the same stupid thing end up killing innocent people. You only lost money/points. I'm hopeful though, from your last line, that you have learned your lesson.

I'll bet it was tempting, but it seems like you got off cheap, at least you didn't hit anyone. In Alberta, you are only allowed 15 points and your insurance cost would triple. :nono:

Guys I don't think he is whinning. He told it like it was. Not saying the cop faultsly accused him or anything else.
bloodvette80 you were caught racing, you told it straight and are not complaining just stating facts.
I respect that and hope the fine is no where near the max.

Norval, I don't think anybody is accusing him of whining. The majority of posts here simply suggest that he got what he deserved and we all hope he learns a lesson and does indeed "take it to the track" in future. Street racing is deadly, usually to innocent people. It's not "cool" at all. I hope the fines/points are just high enough to deter all three of them from doing this again.

ok well no I'm not whining. I am guilty of racing... but if you want to hear some whines, i did not exceed the speed limit, (i never do), my tires did not squeel (mustang did) there was nobody around, 11:30pm at night, and my car is probably less that 200HP, stock L48. With sidepipes that make it pretty loud. So I don't blame the cop for pulling me over. I would too. But the race was IMO not dangerous, and whether i stepped on it or not those 2 guys were gonna race so its not like i could have stopped it. (I have a feeling i lit the fuse. A lot of people pretend to be saints and act like they never step on the gas. I appreciate if you take your corvette to the track and race it, infact I applaud you every Sunday at the track. but for the rest of you don't tell me you have never stepped on the gas before. I've driven next to the oldest most increpid Corvette driver, and seen him step on it.) I know some of you are that old increpid man who hammers the gas and when he gets to the car show he says that he never races and drives like an angel. Can't wait to hear whats coming.....

$900 for being an idiot, sorry but street racing is just plain stupid. Maybe after that we can get people like you that cannot control themselves on public roads out of cars and on public transit :lolg:

ya, i think everyone should lay off a little, there was no flag man for the race, this wasn't planned or anything, it was just a couple guys who romped the gas on the green light....whether that is worthy of such a huge penalty, i don't think so, i think that if the race is planned, there is a guy starting the race, and it is on a noticeably abandoned area, then it is definitely a street race

to me this is nothing more than a noise violation and imprudent driving, there really was no race

To Dwayne76, :withstupid: street racing is stupid. by the way, I jsut had a look at your profile, it says you redid your engine.... why the hell did you do that? Not defending my stupidity, but why didn't you redo a v6 and put it in your corvette. I can't imagine you wanted more power. Maybe you should rethink your intentions. If you take it to the track, and you spend your money shaving seconds off your quarter mile, I appreciate that. If every nut and bolt on your car is perfect (ie, you made your motor look stock new) I appreciate that, but if you built your engine so your car is a little faster and sounds a little better, the word Hipocrit comes to mind. So your driving down a deserted 4 lane paved road and 2 idiots and revving their engines and come to a light at 11:30 at night, theres no one around and you jsut want to put them in their place. Don't tell me you haven't been there. So you step on it accelerate to below the speed limit with out squeeling tires. Yea you'll get a ticket like I did, but what the hell did you build that engine for? Like i said, keep racing on the track, I learned the 2nd hardest way and you can think I'm the :reddevil if you wish

I have never street raced, not once....so I'm free to cast stones!! There is a difference between "opening your car up" and street racing. The difference is called "adrenalin rush", usually fueled by relatively young male hormones, often resulting in fatalites, due to not being able to back off because the adrenalin is racing and you can't bring yourself to back off, even though that car up ahead might pull out in front of you.....the minivan with Mom and kids....who should have seen you coming, but didn't realize you were going that fast.

Hence why street racing is punished much more severely by the courts. You think the criticism of this activity is "BS"? You might feel differently if it was one of your family members or friends killed or maimed all in the name of proving who has the most "cojones". I lost a friend in high school, age 17, he was racing in cottage country, he lost control, flipped and was killed. His father never got over it and drank himself to death years later. Now you know why I've never been tempted to race. I really hope Bloodvette80 has learned his lesson, I suspect he has.

I think you should have lost your licsense. I guess if these torts had killed someone my comments wouldn't seem as harsh, so no, $900 is nothing compared to what the punishment should have been. Remember this, next time your insurance comes up for renewel, and your premiums have gone up again, don't blame the insurance company or the government, blame idiots like this that street race.
