I'd like to replace my fuel line on my '69 with a braided line setup. I am not familiar with the "AN" fittings and all of that. My car has that odd fuel filter that has the return line fitting on it.
What all do I need (fittings, adaptors, sizes) to get braided line from the pump to my Edelbrock Performer carb and what do I do about the return line?

Re: Braided Fuel Line Project (KF9WM's 87 coupe)
It's easier to think of the AN sizes when you put the AN size over 1/16. 6AN become 6/16 or 3/8 in. I got my lines as a kit from Summitt. It's the fuel pump to line kit. Check out their braided line pages. They also have a tank to pump kit too. I didn't have a return line so that wasn't a problem. I suppose you could plug the line or make that line SS braided too. I don't know if you can use the same hookup for an Edelbrock, I have a Holley.
That is the kind of neat, clean install that I am looking for. Isn't a return line required though? I guess I need to know how to adapt the AN fitting to the fuel pump outlet and what sizes I need. I'd like to go a different route with the fuel filter too. That filter is about $44 at Eckler's .

Normally the return line runs from the pump back to the tank. In the kit I got, there were a few different fittings to match up the pump outlet to the AN line. All the AN fittings were 6AN or 3/8. You will need to change to an AN type reusable/cleanable fuel filter, but you'll only buy it once. They're about $30-40 too I think. Read the descriptions on the filter and you'll determine which size to get, I'm sure they'll offer a 6AN. You'll have to visualize in your head how the different pieces come together. In the pics you can see the Summit dual feed carb line too. It's a combination dual feed line/fuel pressure gauge and inside is a reusable filter. It's real nice except it only fits a Holley 4160. :chevy
I just put the Summit line kit on the Edelbrock 600 in my '70. If you check out http://www.corvettefaq.com, we archived the thread that I started. It's got some good tips on installing the line. As far as what size fittings you need, I'd call Summit.

This is what I am wondering about. My C4 is a TPI as you know. I haven't had a "real" smallblock to work on in a long time :D. Should the fuel pump be changed to one with the return line on it instead of the single line that I have now?
I did send off an email to Russellperformance.com asking for specific part numbers etc. We'll see what happens.
An alternative to AN lines and fittings is the Spectre SSFlex hoses that Summit and Jegs sell. They are regular size hoses that have the stainless covering bonded on to them. They look a lot nicer than the slip on coverings and are fitted with regular worm clamps hidden under aluminum fittings. I plumbed my entire underhood with these and I'm very happy with the appearance. The cost is much less than AN hoses and fittings so it depends on what you want. Are you looking for the stainless look or are you looking for the AN performance. I wanted the look without the hassel of AN fittings and adapters. Take a look at my sig pic to see the results.
I bought mine in a kit from Autozone, don't remember the price, but it was reasonable. It has fake ends, but accomplishes the same thing and includes a clear filter.

I used this same line for my Speed Demon 850 with adaptors since I don't care for the look of the BG fuel logs on older cars. Tell the guys at Summit what carb you have and they can get you the correct fittings to do whatever you want.
