differential
Can anyone tell me how to figure out what the gear ratio is on a stock differential? My differential is making a bunch of noise and I tried the additive without much luck. It's real chattery when going from a dead stop.
I'm thinking of buying a rebuilt from Ecklers or Zip? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Jack you car up off the rear tires and rotate your tire one turn while counting the number of times the drive shaft rotates. Little over 3 then 3.08, little over 3.25 then 3.36, etc.

1st your going to have to put the whole rear end up in the air. Get a marker or chalk or something that you will clearly be able to see. Mark your side yoke and the housing in a straight line. Next mark your differential pinion flange and the housing to get a straight line. Get under the car and have someone spin your wheel by hand. Look at the pinion flange as they turn the wheel. You will more than likely have a 3 series gear, so you will want to count how many times it passes the marked line on the housing. When you get to your 3rd time around stop on the line. Look at the side yoke side now. Your going to want to keep your finger on the pinion yoke also. Continue to turn the wheel slowly until your side yoke line matchs up. If your line on the differential pinion yoke went half way around than you have 3:55 If it only went around a quarter of the way than you have 3:36. If it went around 3/4 than you probably have 3:73. If it's not close and you go around the pinion yoke 1 more full turn than you probably have 4:11
