Default 1969 steering column removal

I just need a little help here
I have all the hardware that I can see removed, the bolts under the dash are removed.
I also removed the bolts around the lower round disk that conects the streering shaft to the steering gear you know what im talking about..

so now the only thing I see that is stoping me from removing this thing is up at the fire wall, It is a lever I have no clue what it is for? with springs and such conected to it..

how do I remove this bizatch?

thanks johnny

There is a slot in the firewall and the engine side firewall bracket. It faces the engine and is about 2" long. You cannot see it from above.

If you line up the arm that had ( hopefully you removed it ) the cable attached to it the whole thing will slide through the firewall.

Go to http://www.corvettefaq.com and look in the Steering section. Download the following:

Std Column Installation Pic
Std Column Disassembly & Repair Paper #2 - Drop/remove steering column
or
Tilt & Telescoping column 69-82 Installation Pic
Tilt & Telescoping column 69-82 Disassembly & Repair Paper #2 - Drop/remove steering column

There are also papers that include steering wheel hardware as well.

These papers should be all that you need to know to remove your steering column from the car.
