I'm trying to remove the dash pad/panel its lose but won't come out. The speedo and center console gauges have been removed the Steering column has been dropped the screws have been remove in the door openings the speakers have been rermoved. What am I missing? I cannot find any thing else that is holding it in the car. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: Thanks to those who responded I got it out. I buggered up the corner but I think I'm going to replace it
First let me ask what year?
On my 81 i had some clip under the dash that spring clip to the lip at the back of the firewall. I think there were 3 of them. I do know they were REAL tight. Good luck
i took my dash out last winter, and the tabs werent really the problem, the problem i the corners that go around the winsheild frame and wedge in there. what you have to do is take a blow drier and get the corners warm so they are flexible, then lift one side, up first, like the passenger side up and leave the drivers side down, and kind of angle it out. watch out though, those old dashes are brittle, and i busted a corner off getting mine out, i didnt warm the corners though.
The earlier vettes (maybe yours too) have a bracket off the fire wall on the passengers side that screws into the dash. You'll have to drop the passenger side lower dash to disconnect it.
This is assuming you are trying to remove the upper dash pad.
After all the screws are out there are 3 tabs holding it in the center to the firewall. You should be able to tilt the dash up and pop it out of the tabs. I didn't have to bend the tabs nor drop the steering column and mine came out and went back in(with a dashtop) without a problem. Just watch those corners, I broke a little piece of the corner off on the passenger side.
I have a '70, so it might be different for yours, but...
On the early C3s you have to uninstall the windshield side-post moldings (which means you also have to uninstall the windshield molding across the top). Once you do this (and you have the front screws unscrewed), the top dash lifts right out. Someone mentioned a center bracket, so don't forget that. I had no problems once I took off the windshield post moldings. Hope this helps.
