The cable that goes from the engine to the frame on my vette is badly corroded. what is it called? and where is a good place to buy a new one?
I would think you could build your own ground without much trouble. It's not much more than insulated battery cable and connectors that can be crimped on. Bring yours to let's say a NAPA and tell them that it is the ground that goes from the engine block to the frame. Odds are they will even build it for you. It never hurts to make sure you tell them it is a C-3 vette. I brought a valve cover off the '71 into NAPA last Saturday to get a PCV valve and a fitting and when I walked in one of the guys said.... "Ahhhh... a big block!". Had no troubles at all as they went out of their way.
Since the frame is used as a ground wire in Vettes, these connections are more important than most people think. If you have yours made locally, be sure to match the wire size or go one size larger and use high quality crimp on connectors. Use copper wire and connectors - not aluminum.
Then be sure to scrape/clean the point of connection on the frame and block down to the bare metal. Install with new bolts and lock washers and cover with anti corrosive gel.
Follow this procedure also on the cable that connects the battery to the frame.
Then clean up the positive cable connection on the starter and on both battery terminals. You may be surprised at the difference in starter operation, brightness of headlights and wiper operation.
