Default Small block ((Question)) HELP Motor gurus help please!

Hi guys my question is If I take the harmonic balancer and flexplate off a 305 can I put it on a 350 motor with no balancing problems? I am not sure if it is a 305 I am taking out of a car but the previous owner told me it was. The flexplate is smaller than the 350 flexplates I have laying around. Is there anything else I need to be aware of when doing the swap? THANK YOU for your help :skep:

I really have no clue, but my guess is no.

If the flexplate is smaller in diameter then your starter is not going to engage it. The balancer? Remember that vette engines run short water pumps, so you had better hope the spacing is the same... little less any balancing problems that I can't help you with.

My question? Why even think about either?

The flexplate is interchangable as long as you use the correct starter with it.
The balancer is interchangable as long as you use the correct timing tab with it. There are different thickness balancers so pulley alignment may have to be addressed.

In either case balance is not a problem.

Pete...

That's interesting to hear that 305 parts like a flexplate & balancer will work on a 350 in a vette if you change other parts. So, I am guessing if some used car lot had a 305 complete engine sitting around and wanted to get a vette with a crapped out starter and flex-plate with half the teeth broken he could exchange out the parts? Granted.... far fetched. If so... It's no wonder that many new vette owners can't get things to work when they are attempting to buy parts that wouldn't work unless you knew what was done before.

I again ask.... why even do it?

I am going to try to reply to you post as civil as I can because if your other 1450 posts were like this one they must be fun reading but just for you I will explain my situation in detail so you dont have to assume things and blow your mouth off with your opinion.I am sorry my first post was vague and led you to ASSume I was using 305 pars in a Corvette
1. I have a 1966 El Camino with what I was told was a 305 in it, the motor is junk.
2. I have a 350 block sitting next to this supposed 305, the 350 flexplate is larger than the one from the 305.
3. I plan on using all the components off the 305 and put them on the 350
4. I am comncerned with balancing problems
5.I will be using all the parts off the El Camino :skep: :skep:

:nono:

Doesn't sound like a civil answer to me.....chill bud, the guy was just asking why go through the hassle with the 305 stuff, and it's a valid question, I'd ask the same.

Love My 72 and 77...

Not attempting to make enemies. My apologies if my questions were taken wrong. I know alot of forum members are going to go through alot of problems with these C-3's and just the knowledge that 305 parts might be on one of these things might give someone more things to look at before buying one.

hey sorry I am the dummy. As you can tell my nerves are worn thin after working on that POS El Camino for a favor. Sorry about my comments. I have seen a 305 with the heads off,the first words out of my mouth were What the hell is that! The pistons looked like coke cans itty bitty little things. Well any help would be appreciated. THANKS Robbie
