You will need to remove the shift console, center gauge cluster, then lower the steering column enough to provide clearance. You will most likely need to remove the rag joint to allow enough movement. Be careful, the center gauge cluster bezel is extremely fragile in the area near the top where it makes an abrupt turn.

First you need to remove the pillar post trim then remove all of the screws holding the dash pads, Remove the rightside map panel, this will make it easier to remove the top dash pad. The pad pulls outward, however the left radio speaker will catch on the speedo, so be carefull to lift it up.

You will have to disconnect the speedo cable(if your car has air cond you will have to remove the left lower duct under the steering wheel)just push in and hold the clip and pull it out of the head. Tip have a helper pull on the cable where it goes through the firewall while you hold the clip in. While you have it out of the head, pull the cable out of the case a lube it with grease. Push the cable back into the case until just the tip is sticking out.

The trip cable needs to be disconnected. If you need to drop the column just remove the mounting bracket bolts and push it down(You do not need to remove the rag joint or loosen it)

You will need to unplug all the dash light sockets watch or mark where they were. Most cars have the color marked on the openings. The speedo and tach housings are bolted to the dash pad.

While you have this apart I would replace all of the bulbs, clean or replace the speedo and tach lenses. If your dash lights don't dim with the switch replace the switch while the dash is apart. Make sure the vacum lines are on the switch, one goes to the supply and one goes to the bypass under the column. Also if your radio speakers are weak this is the time to replace the left one.

Good Luck
