Default Computer engine code retrieval

Does anyone use a code scanner in addition to counting the flashes of the engine light when running a diagnostic computer check? If so, what a good one.

I purchased a Innova OBD II scanner last yr. It's limited to '96 and newer vehicles.
Check this link and do a little research and shopping. http://www.mikeogara.net/improve_you...auto_scanners/
If you're thinking of buying one for your C3, I think you'll be (economically) better off just using the dash/flash method and a service manual for those early systems. After all, I used that method for years while working in a dealership. You're better off using that $$ towards a digital meter and some connectors for jumper configurations.

Thanks, The car cranks and runs for a couple of seconds, but the minute I give it some gas it dies. Computer code flashes 12. I took apart some of the distributor connections and found them oxidized, so I'm taking all connections apart and spraying them with WD 40.

1982. I noticed today when cranking it only the front injector is spraying fuel. I’m thinking it’s my ECM. I’ll take it out tomorrow and check out terminal 9 (back injector), if it is my ECM, any ideas on where to pick up another one?

I have an OTC Monitor 2000 with cartriges up to '91. if I remember right a "code 12" is a distributor reference.

Skyhigh-
To save you some time and hassle, just be sure you're not misreading the diagnosic codes. When you activate the diagnostic system, it will FIRST flash code 12 three times, (this shows that the sys is working) pause longer , then the code will repeat 2 more times. This happens before the actual 'stored' codes are read from memory.
I would disconnect your corroded term's and carefully clean them v.s. using WD-40. Be sure to check ALL connections in the system, and pop the small cover off the ECM and gently push down on the PROM to be sure it's seated.
