Re: Poll---does you power steering leak (Jvette73)
I couldn't vote because I have 2 that don't leak, one that does, and one with no power steering. The 75' that does leak shouldn't now. I rebuilt the control valve yesterday and it is sitting on the bench waiting to be installed. I rebuilt the valve and cylinder in the 81', no leaks, the 80' is original and doesn't leak.
Re: Poll---does you power steering leak (Jvette73)
Ever heard of the trick of adding a little brake fluid to stop the leaks. I was told it swells the seals a bit and can stop leaks. I dont know if its a good idea or not. Could it hurt anything?
Do this instead:
Get No Leak made by Gold Eagle 14 fl. oz.- it works- most of the stop leak products do not work.
Re: Poll---does you power steering leak (Alwyn678)
When i bought the car,the system was filled with ATF fluid and it dripped from the ram and controlvalve.I drained the system and refilled with GMs Servo fluid and the leaks stopped..ATF may be the cheaper way,but its the wrong way if you ask me
Re: Poll---does you power steering leak (Jvette73)
Was leaking a quart every 2 weeks. Needed to be filled every other time I took it out. Replaced the control valve last night. We will see how long it stays tight.
Re: Poll---does you power steering leak (Jvette73)
Finally Fixed it about a year ago. I could pour fluid in and watch it come out the front shaft. I thought it was the shaft seal until I pulled out the pulley and shaft by hand.
Re: Poll---does you power steering leak (Jvette73)
Its fairly common for those old PS pumps to leak. Mine did, tried PS stop leak, no work. Replaced PS pump with rebuilt one and figured while I was at it would do the 4 hoses as well. Now its perfect. Prolly cost me around $150CDN for the whole shebang. I pride myself on telling people my car doesn't leak anything :D
Re: Poll---does you power steering leak (Jvette73)
Mine leaked when I first got it. I actually bought a control arm and was trying to figure out how to remove the pitman arm before I gave up. I did tighten all the connections though, and that stopped it from leaking. I also added some power steering fluid that has a stop-leak additive. So, I don't know what did it...tightening the connections or adding the stop-leak.
I think the results are a bit Florida Bush-Gore'd as I see alot of hanging chads that really probably would have been *yes* if the question was clarified a bit. Even my power steering doesn't leak now as I changed out all of the lines, but it did when I got it. So, I voted *yes*.
Re: Poll---does you power steering leak (Jvette73)
Mine leaks a little on occasions. I don't know where. Sometimes it will be weeks with NO drips at all and then the next time I come out there is a 3 inch puddle under the control valve. I can operate the steering for a few cycles and find nothing. I think it's possesed..... I had another corvette that only leaked from the pump reservior "0" ring when it sat for a few days.

We still got more than 1/2 of them leaking according to the poll. That would have been my guess at to what the results would be. But yur right though. Theres probably a few no votes that should be in the yes catagory.
Re: Poll---does you power steering leak (Avette4me)
After replacing all lines and multiple control valves I found that over greasing the fitting on the control valve will burst the seals and create a leak. If you dont do your own chassis lube and take it an oil chang service make sure they dont grease it. I have not gresed mine in two years and have no leaks and steering is good as it gets.
Re: Poll---does you power steering leak (chevyjeff)
I bought the 75 with new control valve and lines installed.
It still leaked slightly - so I bought the rebuild kit for the ram.
It still leaked after that. Maybe when I get it back together, I'll
try some of that stop leak.
