What sort of clearance between loop and driveshaft?
:smash:
Interested in one for manual trans..........
In the first one he made it fits fairly snug to the driveshaft. I'm thinking of increasing the clearance, but then the driveshaft could slap around if the ujoint breaks. Maybe it's better to leave it tight?
Re: Driveshaft loop for C3... options? (GrandSportC3)
I used a 2 inch by 1/4 inch piece of aluminum flat stock and took the seats out and installed a plate in the interior and bolts that pass through the floor and through the flat plate. While this doesn't trap the drive shaft from hitting the floor in the even of a failure it will not allow the drive shaft to hang down.
NOt that it would touch the ground in any event.
It is the piece of aluminium in this picture.
Re: Driveshaft loop for C3... options? (GrandSportC3)
I don't know if it's going to fit my application because the crossmember has been modified etc...
Is yours different than mine? I also have the Tremec.
I don't know.. Did you use the Bowtie Overdrives bracket?
No, I modified the stock bracket to do the same thing. The final version of the loop will not have the front part of the steel bracket. It will have 2 more bolts to hold it firmly.

Please let me know if you'd like to be added to either list or if I have you on the wrong one. I will have a better idea on price early next week. I think it should be possible to get it under $100. Also would like you to think about what coating you want. Black powdercoat or hard anodizing (looks like a grade 8 bolt. Kind of goldish).

I will make a pic of my setup... I think that the bowtie bracket mounts in the same location as that driveshaft loop... Don't know.. I will make a pic of my setup ...
I'm really concerned about where the shifter bracket mounts to the crossmember. It mounts on the rear face of the crossmember. Perhaps, the loop will just need 2 more holes, but I'd imaging it would need to be made wider where it fits over the crossmember to make up for the extra width due to the shfiter bracket.
Here is a pic of the shifter bracket:
It also looks like there is a lip on the shifter bracket which may interfere with the DL bracket.
