CALI'S GONE
John's friends picked her up today about 3PM and she's making the long voyage home to the land of OZ. It killed my heart to see her towed away however I know she is going to a great home where she will be resurected back to the CALI we all knew. John has the resourses I don't and I feel confident she will be as good or better than ever by the time he's done with her.

As a relatively new member of the forum I have followed the saga of your loss. I refrained from making any posts earlier as either I had nothing to say or it had been said many times.
I wish you well with which ever direction you go.
The Vette is on it's way downunder and we will be able to see the Effort, Blood, Money and Love you put into the car.
John will resurrect it in his own way and I will get to see a project from the forum in the flesh.
One of the downfalls of being a Corvette Fanatic in Australia is not being able to readily see the cars which are discussed on the Forum, in Magazines and at Saturday morning Donut shop meets. I am looking forward to seeing your CALI '77 when it is resurrected.
Regards,
James

In David's grief at losing the car, he's inadvertently called me John! Nevertheless the car is on its way to Melbourne and will appear (hopefully) at the National Corvette Convention in Melbourne at Easter, good as new.
James,
Are you a member of any of the Melbourne clubs, I don't recall seeing your car?
I'll post any progress on the forum.
Cheers,
Joe
For some reason I thought the vette was already gone. Obviously it was apart of your life to take the last pic of it turning down another street as it was leaving. I still remember meeting the buyer of my '69 in New Orleans for breakfast where we exchanged the money/papers and the keys. It was tough seeing it drive away. I sold it for something like $9000. That buyer ended up selling it to someone in New Zealand for $25,000. I know because the buyer wrote me asking what was original and what was not and I asked the price he paid for it when I wrote back. That was back in the early 90's. Amazing what price these C-3's pulled back then(and may still) on the overseas market.

I have the British Green '68 tripower Vert. You must know it, I take it everywhere I am not driving the '68 Bonnie!
Looking forward to seeing your new Car. Keep me informed of its arrival!
BTW, check out my next post for Aussies only.

James

Don't forget to drop in every now and then. :seeya
This may be a coincidence....I'm meeting a guy (Ian) from New Zealand tonight in Melbourne. He has a 69 white L36 vert. That wasn't your car by any chance?
Joe
I do know that tri-power. I'm buying Greg's 77 also. It was a good buy and will help me restore Cali.
David was a really nice guy to deal with.

Joe
No.... it was a black coupe. It sounds like you are sending a few vettes across the seas and planning well ahead. Kudos!
Thanks. Yes I am planning ahead, worst case scenario, I can take everything I need off Greg's car to get Cali on the road. Otherwise I can restore both 77s. The hard part is selling any of them, I already have two 69s :D
Where is Pearland TX?, my 69 L36 came from Lufkin.
best regards,
Joe
You are sounding to me that these cars(or any other) might be hard to sell just about anywhere right now. Is the economy the same there?
Pearland, TX is about 10-15 miles south of Houston and the fastest growing city(with no paid fire dept... all volunteer) in the U.S. and the highest property taxes to go along with it in Texas. Nothing like your tax dollars going into someone's pockets. Best bets are that this town will go bankrupt with the mismanagement of allowing homes to go up everywhere with no plans at all(and no mayor or city council) to allocate funds to the right place. Don't take me wrong.... I hate politicians.... this is worse!
While the economy is not great here either, I will find it hard to part with any of these C3s. I don't think I could bring myself to sell any of them, I know how Cali feels....I just don't know how I can keep all 4 of them.
Nice problem to have.
Joe
what a shame... what a shame... :( :nonod:
On the other hand - he should take pride in what he has accomplished.
I think all of us here will forever know this 'vette as "Cali 77" - even if it has
right hand drive.
Sorry Dave - and good luck Joe. Keep the progress posted.
