Default Carb question

Don't know if I have a problem or not. '73 L82 automatic. Had bad q-jet so replaced it with a generic q-jet rebuild. Car started right up, so pulled it out of the garage, and put it up on ramps to change the oil (old carb had dumped bunches of gas into the crankcase :( ). I reinstalled the air cleaner assembly on the car while it was up on the ramps. After finishing the oil change, tried to start the car and it would not start. Waited a couple of hours while working on other things then went back to it. Pulled the air cleaner assembly (stock) off to check it out. All looked okay. So tried to start it again and it fired on the first crank. Pulled it back into the garage and have not fooled with it since. So may have just been a fluke, but was wondering if the stock air cleaner assembly could cause any problems with a generic q-jet? Would not think so....but???

Do you have external pictures of the old/new carb? Significant differences? Sounds like the choke/idle circuit may need some fine tuning. Ask Lars, he's the q-jet guru.

Maybe the choke was prevented from closing or opening with the A/C on?

Tom, I wouldn't think the air cleaner assembly would cause a problem, unless for some reason the choke linkage bound on it somehow.

tom, maybe with it sitting at a sharper than normal incline while on the ramps the float was tipped and let the carb flood the motor, and when you let it sit for quite awhile, it started back up? Just a thought.

Kinda been having carb/fuel/spark issues too with my Orange '74 also-not sure what it's doing as I don't have enough time to mess with it right now.
