If your into cars... sure common over... We usually have a slew of vehicles assembled most weekends. btw.. if you want a power trip.. strap yourself to a modified pulling tractor w/7 (yes 7) blown BBC's!! :reddevil
OK, Rat, how in hell you hook up 7 BBC's....blown or not, into any set of drive wheels, and make it all work correctly??? what is the physical hookup arrangements???I don't ned pix, just a quick verbal....chain drive?? end to end?? how do you synchronize all the engines for max power??? track the throttle openings???
Too bad you aren't closer to the OH/MI border we could be friends. :) My company is opening a plant in Lima next year but our corporate offices are here in Ann Arbor, 1/2 mile from my house.
Mrvette.... we bolt 2 sets of 3 BBC's crank to crank...staggering the crank degree to balance the group.... each 3 BBC bank is hooked to planetary gear box...which connects both banks of 3. Then you have a center BBC connected to the planetary box via a clutch pack.... the planetary box is again connected to the lenco trans, via a mega 5/6 disk clutch pack... to a solid axle/driveshaft into a planetary rearend. You start the center motor with a high torq mini- starter, then rev it up to 2500-3000, and release the center clutch to start each bank of 3 seperately. Hand throttle, indiviual brakes for each wheel.... ours has about 1500-1800 per motor running on alcohol... It's a fun ride!! :reddevil :hurray:
Setting the throttle openings is a bit tricky, but in all honesty..it really doesn't have to be perfect... since once they are all fired up, they all work as a single unit.... so a slight butterfly difference isn't a big issue... besides when your talking a combined hp of over 11,000 hp.... if you lose 50-60hp off one motor.. you really don't feel it.
