I was talking with one of the GM Performance parts guys and he thought the reason GM has not been selling the 502 HO until now (they were on back order for many months) was due to some type of problem with the cylinder head. This was not confirmed by anything other than his memory which means it may be bogus/incorrect info. He said he heard something about GM getting a new supplier to make the head (rect port).
Has anyone got any othe rinfo as to this story?
It seems the 454 HO is fine. And he said he hasn't had any 502 HO motors that he has sold come back with any problems either.
So, maybe it's not true. However, the blocks of the two motors are, of course, different somewhat. Maybe it had to do with the water passages?
That's what I was thinking. Unless it had to do with the block in some way. This is the "new" version of the Gen V 502 HO so maybe something came up after they were in service? I'll keep looking for info.
