Default Very important...Test fit your headers!!!

I got a nice pair of Thorley Headers and went ahead and sent them to be Jet Hot coated, and now have learned that they don't fit!

I paid about $400 for the headers and $300 for the coating.

So what other brand would you recommend? I have steeroids, Hydroboost, and Keisler TKO trans. It all needs to work together.

There are two problem with the Thorley Headers...

1. the rear cylender pipes stick way out on both sides interfearing with the steering on the left and heater hoses on the right.

2. they also interfear with the rack and pinion.

3. The collector pipes don't line up with the holes in the cross member.

Has anyone else used Thorley headers with a BB? Did you have problems like this?

Thanks,
~Jay

Test fitting is a good idea, especially with your mods. I don't know if any of those mods would interfere with headers that would fit in a stock engine compartment. Most reports are reasonably good with Hooker Supercomps and maybe slightly better fit with Hedman. You can usually find the right part number on the company website. They tell you which model number fits depending on the options on your car.

Interfering with heater hoses shouldnt be a problem - move the hoses. And as for number 3, I don't think any header will line up with the crossmember openings. You need a custom bent piece of pipe to connect the headers to the rear exhaust pipe. Hedman makes a piece that "almost" works. :)
They look like this:

But even with a stock (bigblock) engine compartment it is a REALLY tight fit. i had to jack up the engine just to remove the drivers side exhaust manifold. My headers almost touch the steering box on the the drivers side and did touch the idler arm on the passenger side.. ( :smash: took care of it!) so anything you change under there risks making contact with the headers.
