I have the standard factory issue locking gas cap (vented) on my '68. When I took the cap off to fill'erup this morning the rubber gasket came off the cap and fell into the tank! :mad Now I have to fish it out with a coat hanger (have done this before....). The gasket is old and stretched a bit which is why it can fall off. Anybody know where you can buy these? Or should I just by a sheet of rubber and cut one out? I understand these locking caps aren't available anymore. Thanks!!

Doug,
A locking gas cap was never a factory installed item for your 1968 Corvette, but was available as a dealer installed option for many years... I'm guessing that this is the part that you have.
I know that Paragon offers replacement gaskets (in both cork as original or a more durable rubber) for the standard gas caps as well as reproductions of the locking caps as well. I would guess that the replacement gasket for the standard cap would be relatively similar to the one for your locking cap. I imagine a quick telephone conversation with someone at Paragon would answer this question.
There are probably other vendors that offer replacement gaskets as well if you are inclined to look elsewhere.
Thanks for the replies guys! I'll check with Paragon. I've just been in the underground parking garage here at work and have successfully "fished" my gasket out of the tank and reinstalled it. Actually found a second one also in the tank, so retrieved that one also. I'll get moving on getting a new gasket though....because I do like fishing....but not this kind!!
