Thanks guys, this is turning into an informative thread. http://www.airflowresearch.com
This is a fantastic web site. If you are in the market for heads, do yourself a favor and check these guys out.
It made me a believer.

As for your HP question, the AFR 180's on a stock 350, 9:1 comp, 1 5/8" headers, RPM intake, 600 cfm Holley carb, and 110E Hyd cam (Intake: .460 lift/218 @ .050; Exh: .470 lift/223 @ .050; 110 lobe center; 800 RPM idle; 16 lbs vacuum) produce 420HP@5000, 435 ft.lbs TQ@3500 (PER AFR WEBSITE)

It really boils down to pay now (more $ for alum) or pay later (more $ at every fill up)
IMHO if you can run those #'s on salad-oil pump gas, spend the extra $ you're saving at the pump for more goodies

I waiting to slip your same cam under those AFR 180's when it's time for that rebuild
:skep: Must be magic in them there heads. :skep: Do not believe you can make that much power from a flat tappet hyd cam with those specs without nitros or supercharging. This is a dyno sheet is from comp cams website with a cam with similar specs but Dart heads and making 70 hp less:

If true then those heads are worth their weight in gold errrr make that platinum.

I am in Chris' corner on this one, I know the matching of parts and headwork that MountainMotor did to my engine last year. By just simply bolting up a set of heads I find it hard to believe an otherwise stock 350 even with the stronger springs they rec. would produce anything near that output. AR heads are great, although weren't they the ones who produced the Twisted Wedge heads a # of years ago. Hae only heard great things about there new heads but Dart are great heads as well. I have the Dart 200's that MM race ported and I as great as these heads are I just cannot see them producing those #'s on a 350, 383 stroker sure.

I have a BB, but just for reference I recently pulled off the stock iron heads (Gen VI crate motor) and installed some AFR 305 heads. I also installed a new cam (little bigger, but its tiny for a BB... 230/230 duration), hi-rise intake and carb. Already had headers.

Picked up exactly 100 REAR wheel HP and 67 REAR wheel TQ. And its a very, very mild combo that runs on pump gas (9.5:1 CR) and is 100% street driven. I can say with certainty that I didn't lose any bottom-end... it makes the extra power across the rev-range.

I could not be happier with just a heads/cam swap.

Just to clarify I am not knocking AR heads since they are probably the best $/cfm but those power claims are a little out whack.
