Hi everyone. I've recently purchased a 1980, the body is straight and everything is in overall good condition except the frame! Someone coated it, under the coating it rusted through from the rear of the front whels to the front of the rear wheels. instead of having a box channel i now have a "c" looking at the road. i can tell by my driverside door how flimsy it is. My question is can i reinforce the frame by welding some 2" square tubing in the channel all the way up? then sheetmetal to make it look like the "box" back to stock? Is this a good idea or bad? I want to repair it without having to do a frame off for the time being (money and time). it still drives ok but the driver side door is starting to be misaligned. Where can i buy frame repair kits? iIhave some pics. Any help would be appreciated. How to post pics?
I also have a 1969 frame. I do not know if it will fit on a 1980 tho. This frame has all the suspension and rear end in it. I do know that the rear end setup is different, but i don't know if the frame itself is different.
