Hi DS,
Here's an example!
Not quite right for your use, but you'll get the idea.
regards,
Alan

Thank you both for your replies, it's perfectly clear now.

On a related note, can someone please explain how the rear vent works on my '71 convert?

Is this system also vacuum operated? If so, why is it not listed on any vacuum schematics?

Thanks

Hi Roger,
I know, that nipple is realy tiny, and if the small hose is stuck at ALL, the nipple twists rather than the hose!!!!!
There's a T availible with the right size nipples but the 2 large nipples are at right angles to each other. It works but the hoses lay kinda odd.
I also think there's one availible from a later year's smog system but it's white rather than black.
So much ado over such a tiny part!!!!
Regards,
Alan

Hi dr,
The rear astro vents aren't shown on the usual vacuum diagrams, but are shown in the AIM, UPC 1, Sheet M 3, Vacuum Control Asm, & Cables; and in UPC 1, Sheet F22, Body Rear Grill & Plenum Air Door. One system for coupes and one for convertibles and none for a/c cars.
The supply for the system happens to be the hose shown in the T picture I just posted. That hose runs to the heat/defr controller on the console and from there back to the plenum door actuator assembly.
Regards,
Alan

Hello Alan-I'm trying to trace my way backward from the rear Astro vent. Do you know what vacuum hose supplies the heater/defrost controller on the console?
Thank you again

Hi ds,
Here's the pictures from my 71.These are the original hoses.
Regards,
Alan

The connection is right below the right side hood latch's bumper.
The last 2 pictures show where the hose goes through the firewall and heads towards the console heat/defr controller.

Hi dr,
Relax, you got them second hand. I took the pictures to post for someone else a couple of months ago.
So I guess you got sloopy seconds!
Regards,
Alan

GLAD to help if/when I can.
