Twin Turbos would be sweet, they provide more power and torque and fuel economy. However unless you are skilled at fabricating parts and bending tubing then you will have a hefty price tag on your hands. A roots blower will give you more lower end torque and is the easiest to install. There was a post about this a few months back when there was a discussion on which was better a turbo, centrifugal supercharger or roots supercharger.
If you're after effeciency and fuel mileage (why would you have a Vette in the FIRST place?), a 'hair-dryer' (turbocharger) is your ticket. Lots of pipe, lots of heat, and dreaded 'turbo-lag' (watch a Turbo V6 Buick at the strip)...
If you're not, nothing matches the "OhmiGod, get-the-women-and-children-off-the-streets!!!" reaction you'd get from a Roots-style huffer poking thru your hood (think John Force, Don Prudhomme, Kenny Bernstein)...
Turbos are for foreign cars, F1, and Indy-type cars; nothing says 'American Bad-Azz' quite like a blower.

Just for ease of installation I would say a Centrifugal supercharger is the best bet. Better yet would be a Whipple screw supercharger. It can be used with a carb or fuel injection. A turbo can be a lot of work, but it is the best system as far as efficiency goes, but it'll be the most expensive.

Turbo lag is almost non existent in our engines. It's a problem for little engines (like <2Liter 4 bangers) With the proper selection of turbo (turbine & compressor truim& a/r) you can get a lag free system. The V8 has more than enough torque down low to eliminate the feeling of turbo lag, no way it';; feel slugghish. BNow, if you bolt on a single very large unit intended for verty high rpm usage.. yes okay, then you may get lag but that's not streetable at all.
Having owned all the various forms of positive feed units in question....
I'd say for effieciency, go with a Whipple (screw type blower). It delivers more low torq, with the least amount of drag. You can easily spin 12-14lbs boost. Turbos have the dreaded 'lag', Roots type have a pulse to the intake charge, plus rob alot of hp to drive them. 671-1471 blowers look cool, but take ALOT of power to run, and ALOT of mods to the car. Eaton blowers work well in the 6-12 lbs range, but again, are not as efficeint as a screw type. Centrifical blowers are basically belt driven turbos. They are easier to install then a roots type, but again, there is a bit of a lag, and they give big gains up high rpm.
For instant torq (=power), roots/screw blowers are the ticket!!

Very good point. In fact, you would want to build your engine for the application you choose. This stuff costs big money to do properly. If you are really looking for cheap, you could go with nitrous oxide, but again, you shouldn't expect a lot if you aren't willing to put money into building your engine properly. A basic nitrous kit will cost you about $500 or so. Add to that a few more safety items, fuel pump, and regulator, you are easily pushing $1000... A turbo or supercharger setup is going to cost 3x that figure, maybe even more, though some of the more experienced folks here can chime in for exact figures there...
Just curious, what are your goals? You want to race? What kind of racing? Just knocking around town? For the money, I'd build/buy a better engine unless you have a pile of money sitting around, which based on your question, probably isn't the case.
I spent about $9000 changing from a nitrous motor to the 8-71 blower motor. It is not cheap but the driveability to so much better. The bottom end torque is amazing.
I do not regret getting the 8-71 blower.
If moneys an issue, then forget about turbos. A supercharger is a great option next in line for power adder and keeping everthing under the hood. If you want something to showoff when cruising nothing speaks louder than a roots blower :smash: .
First off, your profile says that you're 15 years old. What is the legal driving age in California?
Secondly, you're in California. The car is not smog exempt. You will have to retain the computer controlled carburetor and other smog equipment to pass inspection. I really don't think that you'll find a supercharger or turbocharger that can be used with stock emissions equipment.
I would save you money and do a complete engine swap. There is no replacment for displacement... or perhaps just a more efficient emgine :thumbs: :auto:

In your position, I'd spend the money elsewhere. You could consider nitrous, but you don't want to put a whole lot on a stock engine. Maybe 50-100HP tops I would think. Like was mentioned, if you have to pass emissions, you'll have a hard time doing any serious mods and you could end up spending a lot of money on an experiment that may never pass emissions... Just remember, whatever you do, save it for the track. :thumbs:
