Default gear change

I"ve got 4.11 gears, m21, and a 454 H.O. engine in my vette. I was thinking of changing the gears to a 3.50. Any comments on this gear would be nice! Il love the 4.11"s but would like a more friendlier cruz gear.

I know a guy with a '67, 427, M21 and 3.55's and he loves the combination! He started with 3.07's.

I have 350/700R4/3.55's and I like the acceleration also (I also started with 3.07's).

The 3.55 and a M21 with a big block will be OK because of the torque. Your main problem is the M21 gear set. With a 2.20 first gear you need to run a deep gear to get the torque multiplication right. A 2.5 to 2.8 first gear would be better with 3.36 or 3.55 to get it moving good. Unfortunatly the old M21 are old school transmissions. Most of the newer transmissions have a deep first gear to get the car moving and then overdrive it for economy. I had the 4.11s with a M20 (2.52 first) and it really got out of the hole but was tough on the highway. The 3.70s are better but an overdrive would really help out.
