I just got back from an extended test drive (20 miles).. I drove 10 miles with the cold air intake and 10 miles without.
The outside temp was 91 degrees when performing this test:
With the cold air intake - the maximum intake air temperature reached was 93.6 degrees. That's only 2.6 degrees above the outside temp...
Without the cold air intake - the intake air temperature rose up to 130 degrees in slow traffic.. but stayed at around 104 degrees at 70 - 80 mph...
I was actually surprised that the temperature stayed that low without the setup...

It looks good Oliver.
I bought an L-88 Air Cleaner and plan on creating the same thing except I am going to put my air box onto the hood and let it close onto the A/C base like the L-88 cars did. I see no reason why you couldn't use what you have with a little alteration and let it seal to your base from the top. This would let it fold forward with the front end and be out of the way. Jim
I'm happy with the assembly the way it is right now.. I took a lot of time until I finally set it up so it would seal perfectly against the hood.. That was the most difficult part...

That's great.....only a 3 degree rise over outside air! I'm surprised your other reading wasn't higher than 104 without the cold air, but perhaps your hood already does a good job of letting the heat out. It reminds me of the cold air box I made out of plywood and pipe insulation for my '79 Z28 back in the day. I cut hole in the hood to make the fake ram air hood functional. It worked great for many years.
Your airbox looks similar to one of these at this link http://www.ramairbox.com/parts.html Click on Models and scroll down the page about half way. I was think of getting the same style box from these guys when I get the highrise hood for my vette. For now though I'll be trying to fit everything under the stock hood.

I was surprised about the relatively low temperature without the assembly too... Well - my hood always had the cowl.. but it worked as an exhaust rather than as an intake....
Looks great
How did you get the box adjusted to seal against the hood? :smash:
I put the base of the assembly on the engine, placed a lamp on top of the assembly and used pieces of wood in different lengths to see how much space I have between them and the hood.. I could see through the windshielt at the assembly...(through the cowl)

Looks pretty cool. No pun intended.
After seeing this thread, I had fond memories of the the forced air induction I created on my 64 Impala back in '67. I cut off the snorkel of the air cleaner to a stub, mounted a coffee can to the stub and then ran a duct hose to right behind the grille.
My friends all laughed at me, but I swear it made the car go faster.

It doesn't matter how it looks like... as long as it works!!!

JUST ONE QUESTION:
If your brakes are so bad, how are you driving the car so far
I'm just keeping enough distance to the car in front of me.. It's scary.. but I really had to test the intake... Every time that I brake - my pedal goes to the floor   . I also downshift to reduce my speed... I hope that I'll get the new master cylinder soon.. It's scary how my brakes are right now
