C3 birdcage removal
First, how are the birdcage structures mounted to the body, and second, how can they be removed? Replacing a birdcage seems like a monumental task to me. I'm only asking out of curiosity, not because I'm planning to remove a birdcage.

The bird cage is manufactured first, then the various body panels are assembled around it and some are bonded to it. Some parts of the cage are not bonded to the body, like the rocker channels and windshield frame. The rear portion of the cage is bonded to the body parts in a continuous manner and would be very difficult to remove without a lot of cutting. I've seen photos of this being done, I just can't remember who posted them. Try a seach on this web site, you might find the pictures I am thinking about.

I have run into the same issue on my 69.. luckily I only have to replace the windshield frame.. while I'm at it I'm going to get a new windshield (pitted/scratched)
