Default OT: Rant -- Home Depot

So I'm working on the passenger door like always this weekend. I'm riveting on new door panel fasteners. Now my car is by far not original, but I perfer to do things the hard way. I'm half done when I run out of 1/8 rivets so I head over to Home Dopey.

I asked 3 people an none of them knew what a rivet was!
Me: You don't know what a rivet is?
HD: No, what is it used for?
Me: Its used to fasten things together.
HD: Check the nail or the tape isle. It's called a rivet?
Me: Yes, like "your riveting personality"
HD: Hmm, check those isles

I commenced with an isle by isle search and finally found them with the staple guns. I should write a letter to store manager, he should run a saturday morning seminar or something.

I mean its a RIVET, that is a shame.

Remember those places called hardware stores? REAL hardware stores, not superstores.

We have one or two still left around here. You walk in and they ask you if you need help. You say you're looking for rivets. Then they'll take you to them....

*Sigh* Guess I'm turning into an old phart :leaving:

I feel your burn, At least they told you they didn't know what it was. I went to Lowe's and every time I ask for something there they just tell me an aisle to get rid of me. They are never even close. Talk about :mad I understand it's just a job to them but they should at least learn what they have and where it is. Now I just go in and look for it myself :banghead:

I never go to Home despot, I hate it there.

There is a real Hardware store near me, I talk to the owner when I need something :smash:

they have a huge selection of stainless and grade 8 bolts.
I just bought 10 polished stainless steel acorn nuts, list price was like $3.30 he gave em to me for $2.50

In Jersey, we have a Lowes and Home Depot on every corner. We some Ace hardware stores, but they're all fronts for the mob as they certainly don't sell things.

I love HD for some things but have never, ever, bought a fastener there (other than nails and screws). We have smaller hardware stores with a great selection of grade 5, 8 and metric hardware (Hillman). I'm in there a couple of times a week picking up stuff for my old motorcycles or car.

:withstupid:

Besides, the rivets are with the rivet guns, in the tool section. Back with the staplers and glue guns.

HD, Walmart, there is nowhere left to go. :(
Home depot has pretty much killed of the old hardware stores around here. The selection has gone down as they have grown. I get my wood from the local lumber yard whenever I can. It is vastly superior to what Home depot sells.

There is an industrial hardware supply store which is pretty good but not open past 5 or on Saturday. There is a Napa close by my work which I have been visiting frequently. The jury is still out on Auto Zone.

Personally, if I know what I need, inclusding fasteners, Home Depot it is. For specialty items or advice, the old fashioned hardware store is where I head.

I have a slight advantage in that I have managed a few mom and pop hardware stores and all but live at Home Depot. Finding what I need is not usally a problem.

RIVET? Isn't that the sound a FROG makes?

i forget how much I dislike going to HD.... then I go back, and I say to my self, "I am never coming back here again!"... then I forget how much I dislike going to HD.... and the cycle repeats itself. The only thing worse is going to HD with my wife!!!! Takes 3 times as long and she loads up with plants and dirt and crap from the gardening section!!! :( MJ
