Ed, i have repaired them in the car before, not fun drilling upside down and tapping it.But it can be done.I guess i just have alot of patience.
Ed-
Just Re-coiled all the spring mt holes in my HD aftermkt diff cover. All the threads were shot, and just 2 bolts were barely holding. I assume these HD aftermkt covers are a higher carbon content, and they didn't hold threads too well.
You should be able to extract broken bolts in yours, and save the $$ of new cover. Just take a real (magnified) close look at the threads in the cover. If you see anything except sharp defined threads, I recommed re-coiling them as they may have a short life.
The dang Re-coil kit set me back almost $50, and I borrowed the odd 19/32" drill. So I figure I'm still ahead of the game $$ wise, and no worries about that happening again! (fingers crossed)
Good Luck! :chevy
