I've been searching for an HEI electric tach to replace the mechanical tach on my 68. While on a Camaro forum I was informed that classic industries made replacement tachs; I went to their website but could find no useful info. I wrote them an email and they promptly responded with the following info which might be useful to someone looking for a mechanical tach:
"...the four tachometers that you mentioned, 6693359A (1968-71 Corvette w/5300 redline), 6468711A (1968-71 Corvette w/5500 redline), 6469057A (1968-71 Corvette w/6000 redline) and 6468712 (168-71 Corvette w/6500 redline) are all reproductions of the original units. The originals were all mechanical design versus electronic."
I was actually quite surprised to learn that someone actually made reproduction tachs for C3 Corvettes.....especially since it's the first I've heard of it and I've owned this car for 19 years.
Just thought I'd share this....doesn't help me in my search for an electric tach, but there it is.
I'm having an electronic tach out of a 75-77 faced with green numerals to match my speedo. If interested let me know and I'll give you the outfit's contact info. About $200 for a rebuilt tach plus artwork.
