Default 78 -79 good choice?

My cousin Mike wants to buy a Vette either a 1989-1992,
or the 1978-79 style. Hes not a mechanic, if he bought a 78-79 with
50k miles in great shape would he likely have a lot of problems being that the car is 25 years old and hes not a mechanic? I think that he should go with a newer vette. pros-cons? Any advice guys? Thanks

I have an '82 w/ 19,000 miles; no troubles (yet?). A buddy had a 26,000 mile '77 (since traded for a '99) with no troubles. Another friend has a '77 with 70,000+, and other than regular, minor things (brakes, tranny seal, etc.), no problems.
Either-way, he's looking at a 10-15 year-old (C4), or a 25 year-old car (C3); he's BOUND to make fixes (or have them done for him) at SOME time in the future. That being said, he should get the Vette that HE likes best!
PERSONALLY, I prefer C3s; I think the C4s look like stretch-wheelbase Madza RX7s of the early '80s. Of the '78/'79 choice, I'd go with the '79, for a few reasons. I like the 'deep-dish' seats standard in '79 (offered in '78 Pace Cars!); last year of that 'style' ('80-'82s have integrated chin/tail spoilers, my personal favorite!); and last year of the L-82/4-speed option.
I'd also 'guess' that a '78/'79 will initially cost him less than the C4, too; something else to consider.....
