Oops, there went a nut. Warning, Graphic!
Engine 1: Fresh rebuild by PED in washington. Lasted 8,000 miles before the lifters/cam comp XE274H wore themselves flat on 4 exhaust lobes. Ran a 13.0 at 109 with street tires. 2.1 60 foot.
Engine 1.5: Replaced cam/lifters and found that I had no oil pressure at idle. lasted 150 miles.
Engine 2: Rebuilt engine myself using roller cam and AFR 195 heads. New bearings/rings. Ran great until the aircleaner stud jam nut worked loose from the bottom of the stud and fell into the carb. Ended up in cylinder 7.
The nut. Engine 3: New bearings/rings/block/piston/rod. Rebuilt engine myself again. Locktighted aircleaner stud. No jam nut. :p: 700 miles so far and running strong!
Needless to say I'm getting pretty good at putting engines together and removing/reinstalling them.
I bought a stealthram fuel injection kit and I should have it this week. I'll post pictures when I get it.

Surfer69: Engine 1.5 wore tons of metal shavings from the lifters/lobes and made the oil into a metallic soup. The oil filter got full and started bypassing the metal chunks right into the bearings. Nearly all the bearings were incredibly worn through the outer layers. The oil was leaking out of the loose clearances and not building pressure.
