Ed,

I am about to tackle this project on my 76.
All kinds of grime, undercoating, paint, etc. underneath. What ate you using to take it off- grinder/wire brush or some sort of stripper? How long did it take to do the section in your pic?

Looks like a fun project.

Kevin

No offence taken Ed. But I got caught in a brief shower about a month ago and now the bottom of the 1967 is dirty ;) .

Why don't you just lift the body? It's not that hard. Then you can sandblast and paint the entire frame.

Something that I've found that works really well for taking off old undercoating is a heat gun. You just heat the old crap up and scrape it off with a paint scraper. You can go back and clean up the residual junk with a rag soaked in mineral spirits.

Ya know, another good thing about oil leaks is that it keeps all the metal parts well preserved from the rust bug. Don't ask me how I know.

Paul, you know I have a soft spot for the green/saddles ones.... I might have to go get a job to pay for all these new parts. ;)
Ed,
I was just kidding but those earth tone colours do look nice to the eye. When the leaves turn I will be doing some 35mm shots for posterity. A vintage Canon portrait 35-105 lens still comes close to digital. Or better. Our Club has a final "Leaves" run of the year before we hunker down for the winter. Watch for the 1967 to appear here.

Your car is a hybrid with a 1980 back bumper, for example. That is a look that I always wanted on my old 1979 with the bolted on Pace Car spoilers. Is that the only mod?

Wow! It seems like the 1967 just arrived. Now it is almost time for winter storage. Where does time go?

Eastwood's used to sell some stuff called Under Gone, I never used it, but it is supposed to be pretty good stuff. One of the old time forum members suggested it when I was doing the same thing you are.
Your picture's looked very familiar, the only difference is that my car had 2 layers of undercoat over the whole bottom of the car. It was so thick in some places that you could not see where the frame stopped and the car started.
It took me weeks of tedious scraping and wire brushing (the cup shaped brush on a drill worked best.) I ended up with at least three 5 gallon buckets full of undercoat.
The only bonus was my frame was pristine under all the tar.

Man!! That's looking good!! Glad the heat gun tip helped. Removing old undercoating sure is a messy job. I bet your garage floor ain't as clean as the frame of your 'Vette is now!!!

Now I just gotta convince my wife that once in a while I do have a suggestion worth listening to. Naah...that's never gonna happen after 18 years of marriage.
