Default What is this?

On my pass. side exhaust manifold there seems to be a 2" extention with a small weight hooked to a coil spring. It might be a part of the manifold but looks like its between the pipe and manifold. Looks like the weight is suppose to turn when exhaust heats up to do something. For my new factory side exhaust, do I have to remove this piece--doesn't seem like its doing anything and might make the fit worse if it's not suppose to be there. Appreciate any help. :D

It's the heat riser. It closes off that exhaust when the temp is cold in order to route the exhaust gasses through the heat crossover passage and warm up the carb. Then as the temp warms up it opens and allows the exhaust to go through. If you're installing factory pipes you'll need it in order for the pipes to mate up at the proper point.

Thanx for the quick reponse Shannon. I've checked Ecklers and others for new exhaust manifolds(rt side)and the pics don't show that piece(heat riser)--so thats why I'm wondering if it should be there. I want everything to mate up correctly w/the factory side mufflers.
