All along the east coast people are preparing for and incomming storm. No one really know whos gonna get the worst of it. As some of you have garages its obvious where your vette will be during the storm. For those on the east coast who dont have garages, what kind of measures, if any, are you taking to protect your vette from the pending onslaught?
We have a carport so its not as good as a garage but it does provide some level of protection. We'll also put the cover on the car and surround the carport with the other family vehicles.

You can drive it to Michigan. We promise to take good care of it until things clear up out east. We even have a few drag strips that are still open.
Seriously, I would be concerned that the storm could cause a car cover to beat on the body and wear the paint off the body edges. I know that my Car Jacket instructions indicate that it is not designed for outdoor use. That isn't even considering a hurricane!!! I would definately try and find a protected indoor parking spot for the weekend.

Hey Wayne ,,,,,,,, are you getting ready for this mess , my machine shop got flooded yesterday . The ground here is soaked and will not hold anymore water . Keeping my fingers crossed .

You guys over in West Chester area really got hammered. Sounds like more rain is on the way but it looks like it will go a little more inland. We can only wait and see. My Vette will be in the garage but my boat will have to tough it out outside.
Re: Protecting your vette during hurricane (Gordonm)
My vette has always been in a garage and as long as a tree doesn't fall on said garage I should be fine. It rained all day here yesterday and it's nice and sunny today. I hope things dry out before all the rain again. I have two neighbors with oak trees that have been letting leaves go so I really should check my gutters as well, otherwise they flood the side of the house and I end up with a damp basement. :cuss

Move it out of harm's way, and your family too. If Mother Nature wants it nothing can stand in her way. I survived the Hurricane that hit Biloxi, Miss. In 1961 (or was it 60? too long ago) - Not fun and it wasn't as big as the current one.....good luck.

Re: Protecting your vette during hurricane (Wrencher)
How about one of those mini-storage places a bit further inland on high ground for a week or so? A couple hundred bucks would be cheap insurance...
Hans
Not a bad idea. Also, how about a parking garage on the lower floors at the airport or underneath a big hotel in the city? Im about 150mi inland from the ocean so it shouldnt be as bad here. Hopefully. I do live relativly close to the Chesapeak Bay though. I suppose if the eye came right up the center of the bay it could get downright nasty in my neighborhood. I hope that doesnt happen.
Re: Protecting your vette during hurricane (grayhook)
My parents tell me about that one. 1969 was not a good year. When your dad tells you about how he pulled out bodies of his friends from wrecked houses, it gives you a good perspective on the destructive power of a hurricane. I live in Gulfport and they have never left for a hurricane since they moved here in the 60's sometime. My father built our house single handedly and did his best to prepare it for hurricanes....
If I lived in something small and wooden, the I would definately hit the road for a couple days.
I hate hurricane prep. We have 6 cars, and a camper trailer to evac to a saver location. A couple of years ago we cut and sold all the big pine trees in the yard. They were just too much of a liability.
Re: Protecting your vette during hurricane (grayhook)
I was in Gulfport right after Camile hit. There was a five story apartment building there that the residents decided to have a hurricane party? all that was left once the storm moved on was the concrete pad. That's it! no bricks, no steel and no more residents. I learned from that time on to never underestimate nature. I try to keep my vette in the garage and the building sealed up tight. keep the pressure equal as possible and hope it doesn't take a direct hit. But I think we here in SE pennsylvania we're going to be spared the worst even thought we're on the eastern side of the storm. But it should be approx 100 miles west of here so we're sitting right on the edge of the strongest winds. Anyway I can hope. :bb
