Dash lights went dead???
Hey, anybody have this happen? All my dash lights went dead...except for the brights indicator !!
I checked the fuse, but all are giving power....
I just wanted to check before tearing the dash apart!?! Any input would be MOST welcome! :grouphug:

Nope. It's the switch.
Takes about 30 min. (2 beers) to replace. The contact on the dimmer spring get corroded, and the dash lights go out.

The switch is bad. Not hard to replace but a PIA job.

Headlight switch? What trick do you use to replace that in 30 mins?

I pulled my light switch out and hosed it down with some circuit cleaner.
You can get it from Radio Shack. Over time, carbon builds up on the contact.

I did mine in about 20 mins, not sure how to do it on a '74, but in my car I just needed to pull the air vent out that's under the switch, loosen the dash next to the side of the switch and pry it open a bit by jamming a screwdriver in it. that's gives you a little extra room to slide it out. then just reach up under the dash unhook everything and take it out. really simple.

I'm in the same boat. The previous owner told me it's the dimmer switch rheostat that's gone bad. Sounds like this is a common problem.

Yup Headlight switch. Mine did it too and even the new one is a little weaker than i like. Probably a bad ground for me as stated above.
