The VIN on the windshield pillar will have the same numbers on the front of the engine. Just look on the engine on the passenger side in front of the head where it attaches to the engine.

:iagree:

An orignal pad will be unpainted as well have the tail end of the VIN + the suffix for your engine/trans combo.

For example, a '73 would have 13S499999 stamped on the stamp pad. The 99999 should match the last five of the VIN of the car.

( 1=Chevy, 3=1973, S=St Louis, 4=place holder, 99999=build sequence)

Also remember any-one can re-stamp and engine block or any other item. If you are buying a numbers matching car then take it to a pro. Just because the engine numbers matches that means very little unlesss all the other numbers also match. I have been told that 90% of the so-called numbers matching old cars are fakes. Where there is money there are fakes . Good luck
