Where to get one? I am looking at a 70 that need a front clip. I like the tilt ones but what would be easier? Also about how much do they cost? The car would cost me 3000. Thanks
I love tilt front ends and there are a couple on the board, GrandSportC3 being the best of the best.
As to buying the thing from Ecklers, the part number is 10256 and requires frame extensions part numbers 27034 and 27035. Total cost is about $3400 US.
There is a guy at http://www.tilt-a-vet.com that has been working on an 80-82 kit for some time, but has yet to produce a mass market product. Besides it won't fit the 70 you are looking at or my '69.
Personally I'm looking at doing it myself. I've been researching it for some time, if you are interested in what I've learned, respond back and I'll post more details. A number of forum members have been very helpful.
I have the elklers tilt nose on my 76. Its a lot of work to get it on and working correctly. I have a lot of pictures of the installation on mine. I also used a 71 rear body. However, I did remove a lot of stuff that you'll probably want to keep and will have to ultimately work around.
I'm working on one too. Not the cklers tilt thing but a custom one that will tilt the whole front end and hinge behind the license plate. As for the ecklers thing, the front end is still available from showcars bodyparts.
Thanks for the replies guys. I am still debating as to whether or not this will be "worth it" to get a car that needs the whole front clip. I am looking at others as well but really like the chrome bumper vettes, that and there are no emmision requirements now on that year.
442: your links dont work. I think you exceeded your allowed bandwith.
I am sure that you can get a stock front clip for a lot less money than the prefab tilt front. Probably on the order of less than $1K.
The biggest difference between my tilt front plans and everything I've seen so far is that I'm borrowing from another member's design and using a compound hinge to tilt and lift the front clip so I can get 90+ degrees of tilt while keeping my chrome bumper off the ground.
442- yeah I was checking out your site this AM and it exceeded it's bandwidth. My Cable Modem is like a big vaccuum.
I love tilt front ends and there are a couple on the board, GrandSportC3 being the best of the best.
Thanks!! Unfortunately - my tilt front is not available anywhere :( :( The original owner had a bodyshop and built it out of the orignal font... What I like most about my tilt front is that I still have the chrome bumper.. Many kits have the plastic front which doesn't look as nice as the chrome bumper front...
If you go to showcars bodyparts, they have the brace with the 2 ***** on it that you have to bond on your original (laminated together) front clip so you can use the hardware ecklers had, your front will be exactly like grandsports...
Reidry, do you have any pics of your hinge setup???
Man I love this site. Thanks for all the info guys!! I contacted showcars yesterday and their 1pc front is 1295.00 with a 3" cowl hood. Sounds good except it also has 2" flairs which would look awkward unless I flaired the rear also. I might just go the stock route and bond it together cause i want the Big Block hood that is 2.25 or 3" taller than stock. Do you guys know of any good (reputable) corvette salvage yards to get a used front clip from? Thanks again
Dude, if you order from them please tell them Marck Jongman sent you :)
I want to order from them but they're a tad slow and they need to ship it to the Netherlands, if you mention my name maybe they'll do a little bit of extra effort for me.
I think they have the reinforcement thing as a seperate item (the purple stuff in the pic), also why not flare front & rear? That would look really cool IMO.
TT - I want to run 17x9.5 rims all the way around with P275/40R17 as a starting point. I've having a little trouble figuring out how much flare I'm going to need. I'm setting up for AutoX and I'm not sure if I'll want to go wider later. I'm just wondering if I should go with large Flares i.e. 2.5 and 4 and set my backspacing to place the tire sidewall even then change rims if I go with bigger tires later.
I believe the current rims are 8x15, front is P235/60R15 and rear is P275/60R15. I haven't measured, but I believe these are 4 or 4.5 backspacing, I can just get an index finger between that rear tire sidewall and the stock trailing arm.
Had the same, 275/60/R15 and it just fit the rear trailing arm, had to watch the hand brake cable.
When cornering rims with more backspacing actually put less strain on the bearings (but it will be more strain when going in a straight)
Stock rims are 8x15 with 4" backspacing (and therefore 0 offset)
When going to 17x9.5 wheels you will need at least 4" backspacing too but to be safe I'd go with 3,5" at least. That means you will have 1,25" pos. offset. This leaves 6" of rim on the otherside, which is 2" wider than stock. You would need at least 2" flares, preferrably 2,5". The narrower you choose the backspacing (more negative offset or closer to 0 since you're on the pos side w/ offset) the closer the rim will come to the TA. This also means you may need to run a shortened spring.
TT - I hate to tie up this thread, I've got a few more questions ... I'll send you an IM.
Thanks for the help.
Shark Attack - I think you'd be very happy with a tilt front, there just aren't that many C3s around with em and they look so very  !
I don't think anyone mentioned it, but be sure you are getting a car in good shape otherwise. If the front clip got destroyed in an accident, what shape is the frame in? How about frame and birdcage rust? I got bit by the rust monster myself, I had to get a complete rear body section from the firewall back! That'll teach me to buy a vette for $1500 US.
Just make sure you are getting a solid car otherwise before you worry too much about getting a new nose. BTW - once you get one there are always new things to spend money on so be sure you can afford all your wants!
I will send pictures of the hinges to those who are interested, I'd prefer not to post them as they are pictures of another forum member's work. I haven't fabricated my own yet - I'm currently working on a 3d model in CATIA for them as the ones I have photos of are for a Mako Shark body kit car not a stock C3.
Send me IMs or an email and I'll share the photos.

Re: 1PC Tilt Front (reidry)
I have a Eckler's tilt front end thats missing one small part, its complete other than that with the frame extensions, etc. It had a hole cut in the hood that could be glassed over easily, the reason I bring it up is because I may sell it.I'd take what I paid for it to a forum member,1,000 dollars and shipping.I could use a few things in trade if anyone is interested,Im or e-mail me.
