Default Electric fan angle?

I've read through some of the archives, but didn't find much discussion on the downward angle of radiator mounted electric fans. Question is, how much heat are you building under the hood when idling? You know...right around the carburetor for those of us that don't have snorkles and ducts. Seems like the electrics blow the air down and out, and the mechanical fans will circulate air all around the compartment.

I made the switch from mechnical to a single 16" electric. My electric fan is mounted at the same angle as the radiator, so I guess the angle of the fan blows air at a slight downward angle. Not sure this really causes any cooling under the hood...its hot under there regardless.

Yeah, it does seem to stay pretty warm under there. Just want to make sure it doesn't get any worse with electrics at that angle.

Anyone else have some thoughts/experience between the two?

I'm on of those "snorkel" guys so I can't comment on the engine intake. I did notice the passenger compartment stays cooler. It may be that the air is going out the bottom rather than over the engine and to the firewall.

Cane's comment on the passenger compartment being cooler is a real +++ for electrics. Glad someone made notice.

You will gain 1% HP for every 10 degrees that you drop intake air temp.

Find a way to snorkle.
