Default Rear Spring

Can any one tell me the correct torque for the center plate bolts (to the diff. cover) for a stock 9 leaf 2.5" wide steel spring. The Haynes manual lists 70 ft. lb. and the service manual lists 33 ft. lbs.

I'd go with 70 but do not torque the bolts all the way up with the car on jacks.

Check in the archives. The manuals had different info depending on the year printed. The concern here is not breaking the rear cover tabs that the spring bolts to. The way I did the last one was to start the bolts and torque then to about 45-50 ft/lbs hook up the spring ends,t ehn get the weight of the car on the suspension and torque to 70 ft/lbs. I was able to this on a Kwiklift so I never had to try and fit under the car on the ground. I also used a HD rear end cover on the last 2 cars to help strengthen them.
