Default Help please! Electrical questions (Switch/wires)

There is a switch attached to a support member under the dash, that has an elongated slot, for the switch to ride in. When the accelerator is pressed most of the way down to the floor, the switch is activated.

I found this laying upside down in the car, and it was off, so I don't know what effect it might have on the car while running.
My earlier experiences with this type of thing was an A/C cutout (turning off the A/C compressor when full power was required) but 2 things come to mind with that:
1) This car doesn't HAVE A/C (or did it when new? No build sheet to check) It is a convertible, so maybe didn't have it.
2) I thought the cutout switch was attached to the carb linkage anyway.

Any ideas out there? The wires were both brown and about 20-22 ga. I think.

There was also a disconnected connector, 2 bright purple wires, heavy gauge (about 12-14?) in a T formation. Nothing was in the area that it might have been connected to. I didn't find it in the wiring diagram either :(

Thanks for any help!
Paul

Sounds like the switch that opens the cowl induction hood door at full throttle. It runs to a solenoid in the hood that opens it. Usually the solenoid is crap and doesn't work. Look at the color of the wires running up the inside of your hood and see if they are the same at the back of the switch.

The purples might be for a seat-belt/starter interlock system. Don't know if was on a '73 or not, but they usually ran to a relay mounted on the cowl in the engine compartment.

It serves two purposes if you have an automatic. As stated above it opens the cowl air door at WOT. It is also the automatic trans kick-down switch. The TH400 (what was used in all 73 Vettes) has an electric kick-down system. Hit WOT and it will drop down a gear.

Oh yeah!! I forgot about the cowl induction! I'll have to give that a try! This is a 4spd and not auto, so it won't be that. If the solenoid isn't working though, how hard is that to replace? I didn't see anywhere the system could be opened for maintenance... hmmmm. I would love for that system to work, considering I just got an original open element, dual snorkel air cleaner assy! That would be awesome!

I will also take another look around for where the purple wires go, it was mostly a cursory look last night. Was really hoping there would be a build sheet in between the gauges, but alas, no :(
The original gas tank is long gone, so there's no hope I guess. Seats have been recovered too, so that's out as well. :mad

Thanks for the help guys!
