Default Recessed headlights

I just bought my first Corvette, # 2429516148 on eBay.

Do to the hit, RF & poor attempt at body work the headlights do not go up.
I am thinking that recessed might be a easer way to get the drivable. ??
I am not wanting a show car, or staying original. I just want to end up with a decent looking car.

The tack doesn't work, but answers from another post may take care of that.

What I am leading up to is the RPM sounds high for the speedo reading.
I checked the speedo against mile markers for 5 miles.
The speedo reads about 8.5 instead of 10 per mile.

I won't be changing the diff gearing, for gas mileage, because I will probably only put about 2-3K a year on the car.

TIA

Congratulations on the getting a Vette (is this your first Vette or first Vette from ebay?) -- looks like you got a pretty good deal. You might try to locate a bodyman good with fiberglass -- repair (done the right way) may be less $‘s than you think.

Eckler's has the recessed lights at $429.99/pair - for another $199.99 you can get plexiglass cover. http://www.ecklers.com
you might also check/post on the C3 parts for sale forum and of course, there is always ebay

My '77 when I got it - had had the 3.08 factory gears changed to 3.55 --- and I too, was used to cars running lower RPM's -- right after I got it I found myself going 45-50MPH when ever I wasn't paying attention --- it just sounded more what I was used to -- the easy fix is the plastic gears where the speedo cable plugs into the tranny -- you need to remove yours - count the teeth- find a Chevy parts guy who can tell you if you need more or fewer teeth and then buy the next couple of sizes. This worked great for me -- speedo is right on (okay really close) now.

again congrats  on the good deal Vette and welcome

How about a new one-piece front clip and keep the hideaways? I don't think recessed lights plus trying to fix that fiberglass will be much cheaper, plus the hideaways make it a vette.

On the recessed headlight issue you need to be aware of a possible problem. I had talked to someone locally at a show who used one of these kits. The problem he had was that the headlights were somewhat blocked from hitting the road in directly in front of the car. This was due to the design of the kit. With the lights being pushed back, the lower portion of the shroud blocked the path of the beams. This person couldnt live with it and had to have custom fiberglass work to enlarge the shrouds and correct the problem. Im not sure if there is only one source for these kits and if theyre all the same or if the manufacturer has adressed this problem yet.

On the speedo reading. Your test results the way you print them indicate that the speedo is reading slower than actual. So if someone changed the gear ratio then they switched to a higher ratio(numerically lower). That would reduce the rpms at a given speed. Other causes could have been larger diameter tires or a tranny swap that didnt contain the correct speedo gears.

Somebody wants to trade so the cost is the shipping.
The body work I am going to try to do myself. I want to learn.

Woops on the speedo reading. It was the other way, about .15 more per mile, not less.

Thanks for the input.

It is my first Corvette.
