Saw a progrem on TV about car theft. They had two "retired" professional car thieves on it and they let them break in and steal cars with different theft deterent systems.

They were able to get in the most sophisticated alarmed cars in a matter of seconds, it was almost laughable how easy it was to bypass any type of "audible' alarm with two guys. Nothing worked against these guys even the club or the club that goes down on the brake they just ripped it out.

The only car that the could not steal had a battery cutoff switch they could not find and they gave up. :D

The trick is to make your own immobilizer. Any system you buy will have info out there for the theives to find. If you get your own switch(es), hide them in a location thought out by you and wire it in your own way, no theif will figure it out. On my 71 the keyless entry totally disables the EFI when locked. In addition I have a manual switch that does the same thing. I never tell anyone where the second switch is. All wiring is in looms.

The only way I can see anyone steal my 71 is with a tow-truck and then many hours of re-wiring the car.

Remember, you don't have to make your car impossible to steal, just harder than the $80k mercedes parked next to you!

[Off Topic] What lock-popper/keyless entry system are you using that has the strength to lock/unlock the Corvette doors? I'm interested in putting in a keyless entry system in my car when I redo the (much needed) door locks.

[On Topic] That device looks neat. I just wouldn't want it sticking out of my dash like that.

:iagree:
I have similar except the FI/keyless idea which I like. I want to hire the thief that can figure out my loom covered wiring mess. It would sure save me some time.

funny, i have two separate kill switches in my car. one came with the car a very long time ago in a very inconspicuous place. the other was part of the option package i got with my jacob's ignition. i made sure to put that one in a more obvious location so should some thief try to steal the car, they will find that one. what they don't know is i never set that one so they start messing with that thing and they really jack things up. also, what's funny is the system comes with a rev limiter that operates by a similar micro switch that i mounted right on the console in plain sight. now if they notice that and start playing with it, they set the limiter to 'bump' at about 1800rpm, they find the other kill switch and screw with that, they'll never find the original one. sure, i'll have a hell of a time resetting everything but the car will still be there!

I got my actuators from http://www.partsexpress.com They were about $10 ea. They have no problem at all locking and unlocking. I have a power supply for testing and they worked all the way down to 7V.

I had one just like that on my 73 Z28, and it was the best system I have every used. It came with the car so I did not know where the guy bought it from. I will be getting another one of these. Thanks for the info.

That's pretty cool.

I was thinking about doing something similar. Get an odd relay and connector to plug it into and keep the relay on a keychain like this device. Figured I could find a goofy place to hide it
