Installing headers - What's the best way to route the plug wires?? Across the valve covers or underneath like original?? I kinda prefer underneath but, not sure how to go about doing it.
I have Hookers on my 72. My wires are routed underneath in the original locks. As long as you get the correct wire set this should'nt be a problem just time consuming. I will be doing a replacement of wires with Pertronix Flame Thrower wires this week (they look stock but the specs on them are great) and plan to route them the same way. Good luck, I'll let you know how my install goes.

72 350, TH 400, Edelbrock Performer Intake, Hookers, 2.5" exhaust w/Flowmasters, Pertronix Electronic ignition, Pertronix Wires will be installed tomorrow w/Rapid Fire Plugs , Heat Barrier Kit just purchased install in the next couple weeks. K&N (ordered)
After burning through three sets of plug wires, I bought the Made For You looms. They're expensive, but worth it. But I still burned a few boots. So now I'm going for the boot protectors.
Just make sure you don't get any small oil leaks.
When I pulled the wires out of the bottom looms on my 75,
the 7mm wires were bloated to almost double that. Holy crappoli.
I'll be keeping mine over the top.
If you go over the valve covers like i did, it usually means ditching the factory ignition wire shielding. At least the parts that run underneath. When I did this it had a negitive effect on radio reception, which ws one of the main reasons for the ignition wire shielding. Unlike a steel body car, the vettes fiberglass wont absorb the ignition noise. So if you want to maintian good radio reception, keep the routing and shields as close to factory as possible.
With Dynomax Headers I routed my wires underneath as stock ('81). No problems with burning the wires or boots.
Brutus,
Nice looking motor  Did you make those vacuum pipes yourself?

Yeah Paul I did them myself. I used 1/4" stainless tubing for the job. Still got a couple of lines left to finish off before I'm done tho.
Thanks for the compliment too btw.
Said I'd let you know how the install went. Just finished the install of Rapid Fire Plugs and new Pertronix Flame Thrower Wires. I routed the wires in the original looms (under the headers) and am still using the ignition shielding top cover and both side pieces. The install went fairly easy, the pasenger side was a little more difficult as I have Air Cond on that side. The shielding was a little bit of a pain too but I think its worth it. The motor is running smooth as silk after the install. I'll take her out tomorrow and put her through the paces on the back roads. Good luck with yours!

Looks great...I am using the same wire looms. But, I'm curious about your
choke plumbing. How does it work?
Thanks, Bill
Bill...It works just the same as it always did. I've changed nothing from it's original plumbing except that it no longer runs via the heat cross over in the manifold.
