Default lift survey

I was wondering everybodys thoughts are on using a two post vs. a four post lift. I like the idea of the two post as everything will be out in the open but I dont like the idea that I will have to lift the car by its frame everytime I need to work on it. Also has anybody had dealings with autolifters in witchita KS.?

I have the AutoLifter 9000 truck lift in my garage and love it. I've had it now for over 10 years with no problems. Asymetric/clear floor lifts are definitely the way to go. At no extra charge, AutoLifters reduced the width by 1 foot to allow me some extra room to get a second car in the garage. They also included two sets of short and two sets of long arms (8 arms total) and these were all of custom lengths. Again, no extra charges.

Other considerations: a 4-poster is better for storage (I park my Subaru underneath my Superior lift all winter.) Also, a 4-poster doesn't have to be bolted down. No doubt that the 2-poster is better for lots of work but everyone's situation is different.

I've got a Mohwak A-7 (2 post). I love it.

Right now I've got the frame in the air, and the body underneath on a dolly.

I use the 2 post lift in my shop, it makes easer to work under the car . I pull transmission and do minor auto repair with a drive on lift the ramps are in the way. 2post is the best for repair drive is best for storage and home use.

IF you are going to do a lot of work, especially brakes/suspension type stuff, it's easier with a 2 post IMHO. If you want to get underneath as well as have 2 car storage in one garage, I'd go with a 4 post.

bobk, I know the mohawk lifts are not cheap but I have seen them and they are very nice. Have you seen the adapters they sell that allow a two post lift pick a car up by the wheels?

I used to use a tall jack stand on the lifts which picked up by the tires. One advantage of that type is it catches the tires for you and can be used as a bench for tools and parts. The storage under feature of the four post lift is a big plus in the home garage. The ramp type lift will also reduce flexing the body present with lifting by the frame.
