Re: Leaking Freeze Plug (virtue4u)
if you can get to it from the bottom, then they are not that bad to replace.
Drain the cooling system and then drill into the middle of the plug. Pry the plug out. They make plug pullers, it's a u shaped tool with a threaded puller in the middle.
Once the plug is out, use a seal driver or the right sized large socket and a hammer to pound the new one in. Some use some RTV around the replacement one for a good seal. they also make rubber expandable ones, but I would consider that a temporary fix.
I think I may have a leaky freeze plug too. The only problem seems to be the tight quarters its located at. Between the firewall and block.
I believe BSeery was speaking of the freeze plugs in the side of the block by the cylinder walls. Of hand, I can't think of any easy way of changing out the one's in the back of the block.
i replaced the one behind the starter last winter without pulling the motor.it was a real pain in the ... but it can be done.had to remove the header/sidepipe
best advice: ADD ANTIFREEZE.

Nope - decide which is easier - pull the motor or drop the trans. That is the only way to get at the ones in the back.
